Thinking About Phone / Text / E-Mail / & The Web

  • How do you properly answer the phone?

  • What are some possible consequences for our social media and online behavior? 

  • Using the acronym T.H.I.N.K. whenever you are on social media: â€‹

    • H - Is It Helpful? 

    •  I - Is It Inspiring

    • N - Is It Necessary

    • K - Is It Kind?​

 

How To Properly Answer The Phone

​

  • Introduce yourself

  • Speak clearly

  • Actively listen (Take notes on important calls)

  • Be cheerful (Smile when you talk)

  • ​Think about your actions because your actions have consequences. Remember cell phone conversations can be hacked and even recorded

 

Modern Etiquette: Rules For Texting

​

  • Never text too early or too late

  • Never text at the dinner table

  • Never text while someone is talking to you

  • Keep texts short & always check spelling

  • Emojis & slang are only O.K. for friends

  • Never send or share inappropriate information or pictures

  • If you receive an inappropriate text or picture. DO NOT erase it or share it. Show your parents as soon as possible so they can handle the situation the situation in an appropriate manner

  • Think about your actions because your actions have consequences. Remember text message conversations can be saved, screen shot, and even shared with others

 

 

Modern Etiquette: Rules For E-Mail

  • Never leave the subject line blank

  • Never send several emails in a row

  • Always begin with a greeting (Good Morning)

  • Always end with a closing (Thank You, Sincerely, or Regards)

  • Never send or share inappropriate information or pictures

  • If you receive an inappropriate e-mail, DO NOT erase it or share it. Show your parents as soon as possible so they can handle the situation the situation in an appropriate manner

  • Think about your actions because your actions have consequences. Remember e-mail conversations can be saved, screen shot, and even shared with others

 

 

Modern Etiquette: The World Wide Web (Internet)

​

  • It is called the web because everything you post online "sticks" to the web. It is there forever and will NEVER 100% go away

  • Remember nothing online is ever 100% private. Everything you say, post, write, upload, or do can be seen by anyone

  • Even if you use a fake name or fake email your computer ISP number can be traced back to you 

  • Never send or share inappropriate information or pictures

  • You are never really anonymous online​

  • Keep Safe / Keep Away / Keep Talking

    • Keep your personal information SAFE (Never share passwords)

    • Keep AWAY from strangers online (Never speak with anyone online who you do not know) 

    • Keep TALKING to your parents about everything you experience online

    • The more your parents know about your online experiences, the more they are able to help you make sure those experiences are good ones​
